Biography
Adonai is faithful. Kim knows that all her gifts and blessings come from Yahweh, our Creator. He has blessed her to be a wife, mother, civil servant, worship leader, Bible study leader, worship artist, psalmist, and music producer. She always loved to sing. As a child, Kim listened to jazz. Her father, Benjamin Baber, was a well-known jazz pianist in Detroit, Michigan. She would listen to him play the piano while her mother, Frances, sang. Kim would sing along to albums by such greats as Gloria Lynn, Nancy Wilson, and Andy Williams, and would vocally mimic the sounds that Jimmy Smith played on the organ. She loved music so much that she would sing to herself, to family members, and to people passing by under her window. Later in life, Kim ventured out into the world, where she sang secular music for many years. She starred as "Maria" and "Lili" in high school productions of the Broadway musicals West Side Story and Carnival. A few years later, she became the female vocalist for several well-known bands in the Washington, DC, area, that specialized in R&B and urban contemporary music. She sang with The Headliners, a band consisting of former musicians of Chuck Brown's legendary Soul Searchers. It was through music that she met her husband Michael, a gifted drummer. They gigged together for many years, even traveling to Japan where they worked with a band in a popular Tokyo night club. Kim understands the power of music, especially the lyrics. Through spiritual eyes, she sees the power that lyrics have on people including those she loves and herself. She says that "Words are awesome just like the Bible declares: "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life]." (Proverbs 18:21) In 2001, Kim began singing for the Lord after going through a series of God-ordained life events. She says "I had received the Lord Jesus Christ into my life several years before I began singing for Him. The decision to sing for Him seemed to have begun when I stopped singing secular music. During that time, God allowed circumstances in my life that were decisive points for me to choose to praise Him in song or not. When I responded to the Lord's calling in my life, it felt like an insignificant choice in the natural. But, when I look back, I see that my response was life changing spiritually. One event led to another. Before I knew it, the Holy Spirit was pouring songs out of me. This is when I began recording His music. " Kim loves to sing solos, but she has an affinity for leading praise and worship. "All the years that I led people into sin through the words I sang, God the Father, through Jesus Christ, is now using for His glory. He's anointed my voice to lead the saints into praise and worship of Him." 'Through Jehovah's Word and the Holy Spirit, I know now that my Heavenly Father always had a plan for my life which is to love and worship Him and to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. I view my past life experiences as a training ground from the Lord to prepare me to live for and sing to His glory forever." She says that she now knows why music and lyrics are so powerful: both originate from God our Creator who is all-powerful. She knows that she must be a good steward over the gifts and blessings God has given her. She knows that the Word made flesh is Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior. Kim says "Before I was saved, I used to call on God to help me in difficult times, and He delivered me each time. Now I know that His help was there even before I asked for it. I am blessed. I pray for an obedient mind and heart, that my faith remains rooted in Jesus, and that He calls me His good and faithful servant." With the heart for evangelism, a gift from the Holy Spirit, she desires that her music be played in what is termed the "non-Christian or secular" media to fulfill the Great Commission as well as in the Christian media. She speaks to people about God wherever she is as the Spirit leads her. "Jesus owns all media, and He wants me to go to it all. I'm very concerned about the many sins in the world which separate people from the love of God, but in particular abortions, having committed this sin myself. I pray that the Lord will use the music He’s given me to open many more doors so that I can speak the truth in love about abortions which are so pervasive in the world." Kim desires that everyone be saved and know God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ--for this is eternal life. She prays for the salvation of others so that they can receive God's grace, mercy, and abundant life. She waits in joyous expectation for her Lord's return. Leadership at the Triumphant Church of Springfield, VA, where Kim's worships, has honored her faithfulness in serving the Lord with the Dana M. Spaccio Fruit of the Spirit Award and the William "Bill" Maryland Outreach and Evangelism Award. In 2006, the Lord introduced Kim to musically gifted saints from Nigeria for her next CD project.
